India offers to mediate between Russia, Ukraine
The government is ready to support any peace efforts between the two, said PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over telephone that Russia and Ukraine must stop the war and return to talks and diplomacy, and that the Indian government is ready to support any peace efforts.
Modi said both sides should revert to dialogue and diplomacy to find a lasting solution to their differences. He also mentioned that India will continue to provide humanitarian assistance for affected civilian population.
Recently, reports suggested that Russia had plans to nuke Ukraine after it was clear that the US and some European countries were supporting Ukraine in a covert manner which prolonged the war. According to reports it was PM Modi who dissuaded Russian President Vladimir Putin against using nuclear bombs.
Global oil and gas prices have see-sawed this year, with Putin stopping exports, then NATO capping the prices and then the US releasing its strategic reserves – an action only meant for times of war. Today, Putin said that the West was trying to break Russia and he will make every effort to prevent that, which escalated the tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Against this backdrop, PM Modi’s telephonic conversation with Zelenskyy assumes greater significance.
