EPS has usurped Jayalalithaa's legacy, but this could just be the beginning of the end of separatist ideology in TN; pic-AIADMK

The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK (read Tamil Nadu next? – MDDTimes), has expelled veteran leader and ex-CM O. Paneerselvam (OPS), which is likely to not only reform the politics but also the future of the state.

Just like in Kashmir of the 1980s-90s, Tamil Nadu has remained closed from the rest of India and in the clutches of politicians who have chained them using “Tamil pride” and nurtured false hatred for the rest of India for over five decades now.

After the Madras High Court gave the nod, AIADMK sprung into action toward single leadership and removed OPS, the main thorn in way of former CM Edappadi Palaniswamy (EPS) to be the supreme chief of the party. EPS told party workers that OPS had to be removed because he was a danger and it had been done to save the party. OPS’ pictures were soon removed from party social media platforms as well.

However, old timers would never underestimate OPS, especially because the events were planned and on expected lines, and OPS’ strong hold in western TN. It is likely OPS will soon announce his own party – a version of the AIADMK, somewhat like it had happened when former CM MGR (Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran) had split with Karunanidhi in the 1970s. OPS has already said that EPS had no right to expel him.

If OPS actually floats his own party, it could end the two-party stranglehold on TN politics that actually has meant a single leadership given both parties have always worked together to keep other parties away.
