Governors have immense role in improving health and education: Vice President Naidu
As Vice Chancellors, Governors should visit universities of their states regularly and monitor their progress; play an active role in spreading health awareness
Outgoing and outspoken Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu, today urged upon Governors to set an example for state governments by playing an active role in monitoring the implementation of centrally funded programmes at the state level.
Naidu highlighted two sectors that were important. Being the Vice-Chancellor of universities, Governors had a duty to monitor the progress of such institutes.
He urged the Governors to frequently visit as many universities as possible in their states and interact with the students and staff. He also suggested they should oversee the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Naidu said Governors can become important partners in the eradication of tuberculosis and other health awareness initiatives in the states and UTs. He suggested Governors should become partners in various vaccination campaigns.
The Vice President said the Office of a Governor is “neither an ornamental position nor a political position” and that their conduct should “set an example” for the state administration.
