Government eases motor vehicle rules to help disabled
Seeks suggestions from all stakeholders on amendments
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has amended some motor vehicle rules, aimed at helping the disabled convert motor vehicles to suit their needs.
The government has made two changes. First, the grounds for applying for temporary registration (under rule 53A) have been expanded. They will now include cases of fully-built motor vehicles which are to be altered for conversion.
Second, under rule 53B, the validity of temporary registration will be 45 days for conversion, also in case the motor vehicle is being registered in a state other than the state in which the dealer is situated.
MoRTH said these amendments should further facilitate the driving of motor vehicles by Divyangjan (disabled). It is also seeking suggestions from all stakeholders within a period of 30 days from 9 February 2023.
