Goa has become the first Har Ghar Jal certified state in the country, the government said in an official statement. Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu have also become Har Ghar Jal certified Union Territories in India, where every household is connected to piped drinking water.

Congratulating the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, and Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Prime Minister Modi said, “The way you have taken forward the Har Ghar Jal Mission, it is going to inspire the whole country. I am happy that many more states are going to be added to this list in the coming months.”

Modi also added that around 10 crore rural households of the country have been connected with piped clean water facility, in comparison to just three crore rural households with access to piped water when he took office in 2014.

Further, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, more than one lakh villages of different states have become ODF (open defecation free) plus – where facilities such as community toilets, plastic waste management, gray water management, GobarDhan projects, have been developed.
