Brushless Motor India gets BLDC motor, smart controller developed by IIT Kharagpur
Use in e-rickshaws could reduce production cost substantially

EVs are the future, and could save a significant amount of foreign reserves by cutting imports of oil
Pune-based Brushless Motor India Pvt Ltd has acquired the indigenously developed BLDC motor and smart controller for e-rickshaws from IIT Kharagpur.
The new technology is considered to be efficient, affordable and certified, and could substantially reduce cost of the e-rickshaws compared to those using imported components.
More than 90% of components and technology for e-vehicles are currently imported by India, which are also difficult to adapt to Indian conditions.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has a programme for indigenous development of electric vehicle sub-systems, with an initial focus on two and three wheelers, which account for over 80% of the vehicles on Indian roads. IIT Kharagpur developed the BLDC motor and smart controller under this programme.
