Covid-19: New daily cases surge to 3,016
A steep increase of over 11 times compared with 29 December 2022
According to government estimates, India’s active Covid-19 caseload currently stands at 13,509.
As of 30 March 2023, 3,016 new cases were recorded in 24 hours, up over 11 times compared with 268 new Covid cases in 24 hours as of 29 December 2022.
Further, the daily positivity rate (2.73%) and weekly positivity rate (1.71%) have increased significantly compared with 0.11% and 0.17%, respectively, on 29 Dec 2022.
Cities like Chennai have recorded hundreds of Covid cases in the past week, while a significant population in other places are down with “viral” infection.
There are concerns that Covid could spread like wildfire again and lead to lockdowns. Government advisory on making masks mandatory looks imminent.
